WTI Students Have Unique Experience in Working with NASA-Bound Equipment
WTI prides itself in offering students hands-on training that can be applied to real-world career success. HVAC and Computer Technology students are experiencing this training first-hand with the unique opportunity to work with and test NASA-bound equipment.
HVAC, Integrated Electronics Technology, and Computer Technology students are working with Mechanical Consultants Inc. to finalize testing on a water chiller system responsible for cooling a large piece of equipment at the Kennedy Space Center facility in Florida. Mechanical Consultants Inc. designed this chiller unit to provide a constant 15-25 gallons of water per minute, chilled to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, to cool a secondary (and larger) unit at the space center.
WTI students are involved in the final testing of this water chiller system, with the HVAC students finalizing the installation of copper pipe for the chiller’s refrigeration system and the Integrated Electronics Technology students helping program the onboard logic controller to initialize the machine startup. Computer Technology students are also responsible for testing the wireless network remote connectivity, which is used to monitor various systems’ automated processes through a web browser. A representative from Mechanical Consultants Inc. is overseeing the work and ensuring processes and modifications meet the rigid NASA requirements.
This one-of-kind experience is a great opportunity for WTI HVAC, Integrated Electronics Technology, and Computer Technology students who can take this training and apply it to their future careers, along with the unique experience to work hands-on with NASA-bound equipment. WTI students are able to be a part of history in the making!
